Tarot Reflections: A Young Boy’s Path to Happiness

Father and son having fun together riding their bikes

This is a reading about a young boy who just lost his dad over a year ago. He’s full of life, super talented, and really into his hobbies, always being nice to his friends and family. Right now, though, he’s not feeling great, unwell and has lost his spark.

I explored the three-card spread—situation, obstacles, and possible outcomes—using the Nova Witch Tarot, allowing the cards to reveal their wisdom and guide me through this reflective journey.

The first card drawn was the King of Wands, embodying a situation that resonates deeply with his vibrant energy and remarkable talents, perhaps even tied to the influence of his father.

The second card, the Two of Coins, gently highlights a struggle with balance and focus; it seems he may be feeling overwhelmed by the weight of multiple activities and responsibilities, possibly exacerbated by a sense of not feeling well.

The third card drawn was the Six of Coins, along with the Seven of Coins, representing the balance between giving and receiving. This calls for reflection on his efforts and how he spends his time. He might become too caught up in staying busy and helping others to avoid facing what he feels is missing in his life. When in reverse, and he receives generosity from others when unwell, it can remind him of his own losses and difficult emotions.

It’s clear he struggles finding happiness when he feels sick and can’t do his usual activities, so I turned to The Wonderland Tarot for more insight.

The first card, was the Three of Cups, suggesting a need for enjoyment, but can also hint at exhaustion. The second card, the obstacle, was the Emperor, possibly representing his father and the challenge of balancing his role as a young leader. The third card, Six of Cups, is all about nostalgia, connections and of course, childhood.

I noticed in the initial lineup of cards it didn’t include any cups, which represent emotions, yet they appeared later. This made me realise a key issue he faces: difficulty finding happiness because of memories of loss. His physical problems seem to intensify these painful memories, making it tougher to deal with his feelings when he’s inactive. Inactivity also felt like a loss for him, separating him from his sports and friends.

The Nova Witch Tarot and the Alice in Wonderland deck beautifully share a heartfelt message. In this moment, we see a young boy grappling with an illness that mirrors his personal journey of loss. The cards revere it’s important for him to understand that being vulnerable and taking time for himself is a way to manage his emotions. It’s his path to happiness where he can cherish his childhood memories of his father and realise he doesn’t have to carry all the burdens alone. He can feel happy and miss his dad, as this shows the love they shared.

Sometimes, understanding children comes from the quiet signals that show their feelings and thoughts. In these times, tarot can be a helpful guide, assisting us in grasping their emotions better. It’s a start, at least.
